Pampa Energía has exported natural gas to Chile's Biobío region for the first time, using the Pacific Gas Pipeline that connects Argentina’s Neuquén province with its neighboring country, the company announced in a statement.

Pampa is currently exporting 183,000 cubic meters per day (m³/d) of gas under a firm contract to the Chilean region and aims to boost its sales to over 400,000 m³/d soon.

The gas is sourced from the Sierra Chata field in Vaca Muerta, the world’s second-largest unconventional gas reserve. This field has a production capacity of five million m³/d.

"Being able to supply the Chilean market on a sustained basis not only allows us to generate foreign currency and open up new business opportunities, but also reaffirms our commitment to the country’s development and the potential of Vaca Muerta," said Horacio Turri, Pampa's Executive Director of Exploration and Production.

This new export deal adds to the one million m³/d that Pampa already ships to Santiago, Chile, through the Gas Andes pipeline.
