State-controlled oil company YPF announced that it has reached a production milestone of 200,000 barrels per day of oil in the vast Vaca Muerta unconventional hydrocarbon formation.

According to the company, this shale oil production level represents 82% growth in just over two years.

“This milestone reflects the commitment, innovation, and talent of the entire YPF team. Reaching 200,000 barrels per day in shale oil is not only a production achievement but also the result of a profound transformation in how we operate,” said YPF Chairman and CEO Horacio Marín.

Over the past two years, Argentina’s largest oil and gas producer has focused its efforts on Vaca Muerta, divesting operations in many mature fields.

A few days earlier, YPF reported a net accumulated loss of USD 150 million for the first nine months of the year, compared with USD 2.677 billion in profit during the same period in 2024.

Meanwhile, operating profit for the first nine months totaled USD 1.156 billion, representing a 42.5% year-on-year decline.
